Asthma causes the muscles around your airways to temporarily tighten up. The linings to the tubes can also swell up. The net effect is less space for the air to flow in and out. Hopefully you have some inhalers to use and these are important but learning to relax and breath well can really help.

Try to relax your shoulders – it may help to rest your forearms on a pillow. Concentrate on letting the breath flow out rather than forcing air in.
